- Start
shopping on the net with major high street names
that you are used to dealing with and trust.
This will get you accustomed to processes and
information required. Why not ask friends and
family which sites they have used and would
be happy to recommend.
- Before
you buy anything, make sure the site offers
an address and telephone details so you have
a point of contact should any difficulties arise.
- When
shopping outside the UK, take care to find out
if laws differ and stay mindful of exchange
rates and postal charges.
- Keep
a copy of all payments you make online by storing
or printing out relevant pages, particularly
when applying for special deals or discounts
that only apply for a certain amount of time
or under certain conditions. Check credit card/bank
statements to ensure payments correspond and
to watch out for irregularities.
|
- Ensure your
credit card details are not being used or published
elsewhere by only using a secure page. This
will be indicated by a locked padlock symbol
at the bottom of your screen and means that
information submitted can only be viewed by
yourself and the recipient. Never just email
your credit card details - they could be intercepted
and used without your knowledge.
- If you have to
register with a site before making a purchase,
always keep your user name and password details
secret.
- Read through all
terms and conditions stated on the site, particularly those which refer
to delivery and return policy. Ensure that you will be entitled to change
or return goods if you feel they do not live up to their description!
